Tourism technology app a glance

THE technology used in the Welcome to Scotland app has been developed by the Wicklow-based company GeoGuides, which launched the groundbreaking “Visit Dublin” app last year.

Earlier this year the company struck a deal with a firm in South Africa to produce a new mobile app.

The Welcome to Scotland guide allows the user to switch between results in list, compass or map format.

Landmarks, attractions and even mountains dozens of miles away can be located and then information and directions downloaded at the touch of a button.

Marcel Henry, chief executive of GeoGuides, said: “The Welcome to Scotland app is a best-of-breed mobile guide, which utilises the GPS and compass sensors that are present in all new smartphones. This is the most comprehensive tourism app in Europe.”
