Top Gun drive-in movie plans for Edinburgh Airport

FILMGOERS will be able to watch Top Gun from their cars on a giant screen with a backdrop of Edinburgh Airport’s runway next month in the latest movie drive-in organised by event firm Itison.

The St Valentine’s event has been arranged on 14 and 15 February at the west end of the airport on land owned by the Royal Highland Centre so the audience can see aircraft landing and taking off at the same time.

Top Gun, the 1986 film starring Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis, will be shown on a 100 square metre LED screen which Itison claims is the world’s largest.

There will be a separate screening of romance The Notebook, featuring Ryan Gosling.

The films’ soundtrack will be broadcast on FM so viewers can hear it via their car radios.

The move follows Itison screening Ghostbusters at Victoria Park in the west end of Glasgow at Halloween last year, and Christmas films such as Elf and It’s a Wonderful Life at the Lomond Shores centre at the southern end of Loch Lomond, which attracted more than 30,000 people

Network Rail also staged a midnight charity screening of Gremlins at Central Station in Glasgow last month.

Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: “Edinburgh Airport really does provide the perfect backdrop for an iconic movie experience like Top Gun.

“We’re pleased to support Itison with their drive-in movie event at the Royal Highland Centre and we hope everyone has a great time.”
