Tolbooth St John's lightning strike

Jim Cains is trying to find the date of the thunderstorm which struck in the mid-to late-1950s, when the spire of Tolbooth St John's Church (now the Hub) at Lawnmarket was damaged by a lightning strike? He thinks it was during the summer of 1956, but it could have been later. The lightning struck the steeple, then our house at 1 Ramsay Lane, formed a ball which rolled down the Mound and earthed in a watermain, throwing the cover high in the air.
