Theatre review: The Ride of the BluebottlestheSpace on the Mile (Venue 39b)

Ever wondered what goes on behind a rock band’s dressing-room door?

RATING: * *

This new production by Olsson Theatre might rob you of that curiosity as it eavesdrops on mediocre indie troupe The Bluebottles – obnoxious party animal frontman; whimsical, whiny guitarist; deranged, damaged bass player; long-suffering drummer – before and after a make-or-break gig.

The quartet’s bickering banter is as tedious as a Stereophonics gig, so that when the disaster waiting to happen actually does, it makes little impact, and the attempt to end on a note of pathos falls flat.

Until 25 August.
