Theatre review: Pool of Blood, theSpace @ Surgeon’s Hall (Venue 53), Edinburgh

THE Surgeons Hall is a suitably macabre venue for this ghoulish revue, set in a 1911 Liverpool music hall where Grand Guignol performances upstairs are complemented by body-snatching shenanigans below.

Pool Of Blood

TheSpace @ Surgeons Hall (Venue 53)

Star rating: * *

The company have chosen to emulate traditional variety’s over-the-top performances, with parody songs, jokes punctuated by musical cues, people hiding in barrels and so on. The young cast (and an older director/actor who delivers a lot of exposition and is the most ripe ham of the lot) try hard, but this is thin, old-fashioned material.

• Until today, 10:30pm.
