Theatre review: How’s About That Then?, Gilded Balloon Teviot (Venue 14), Edinburgh

“There’s a difference between fact and truth,” begins Jimmy Savile, an unexpectedly poignant observation from the late, shellsuited television yodeller.

How’s About That Then?

Gilded Balloon Teviot (Venue 14)

Star rating: * *

Sadly, however, there’s more of the former and not enough of the latter in this one-man play from actor Gary Roost, who seems to have perfected the standard impression, procured some garish outfits and memorised Savile’s biography to re-read in the first person. A few biographical facts are relayed, for example Savile’s early family life and his impressive and eclectic career before moving into television, but by touching on some of the more prurient rumours about his life, Roost has created a show that falls awkwardly between lighthearted nostalgia trip and tabloid exposé.
