Theatre review: Country Air - A Contemporary Ghost Story, Paradise In The Vault (Venue 29), Edinburgh

WHEN an anxious, vulnerable wife joins her husband in a relocation to the country, secrets lurk behind the walls of her very nice new house.

Country Air - A Contemporary Ghost Story

Paradise in The Vault (Venue 29)

Star rating: * *

Combining the ridiculousness of middle-class repression and the sometimes surreal nature of isolation, this production attempts to question if rurality is the key to freedom, or loneliness.

With its frustratingly stagnant dialogue, though, it never really gets going. Instead it whimpers through an unnecessarily surreal plot which leaves nothing to the imagination. With little homage paid to ghost stories, the purpose is cloudy, and the result is fairly tedious.

• Until 11 August. Today 1:35pm.
