Theatre Preview: Seussical The Musical, Pleasance Theatre

HARD to believe maybe, but if you were in Forth Children’s Theatre’s (FCT) first ever production, the chances are you have children or even grand-children of your own old enough to be in their latest production, which opens at The Pleasance Theatre tonight.

FCT steps into its 34th consecutive year of productions with a first for the company, Seussical The Musical, written by the same team that wrote Ragtime and Once on This Island - both of which won the company Evening News Drama Awards.

Based on the books of Dr Seuss, Seussical The Musical was written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. It debuted on Broadway in 2000, amalgamating many of Seuss’s most famous books and setting them to a rousing score.

Featuring a cast of 36 youngsters, aged 10-18, Seussical The Musical runs until Saturday; but if you would like to be involved in future FCT shows, you can.

FCT chairman Mark Gorman says, “This is my fourth year in the hot seat at FCT and I’m loving every minute of it. We will be holding auditions on Sunday between 10am and 6pm for anyone who wants to come along to Trinity Academicals Rugby Football Club in Craighall Gardens for our Festival production of Godspell.

“This newly revised adaptation, directed by Ronan Radin, will be staged for the first time in Scotland.” For details visit www.FCT.org,uk.
