Review: Besides The Obvious, C eca (Venue 50)

It’s a shade better than New Celts Productions’ other Fringe show, the musical The Secrets Hidden In The Beatles RockBand, but this attempt at serious drama feels like a waif of an idea in need of serious fattening up.

Star rating: * *

Two brothers reunite for an uneasy toe-to-toe, alluding to dark family secrets.

Daniel is an estranged artist turned police photographer; Eddie is a lawyer in the struggling family firm, whose problems are indicated by a drink dependency and a strengthening siren noise in his head.

There’s believable tension in the quick-fire exchanges, but some of the dialogue is stilted and after little more than 30 minutes it’s all over before it really got going.
