Joke of the week: Ronnie Corbett and onions

'We've just heard that a juggernaut of onions has shed its load all over the M-1. Motorists are advised to find a hard shoulder to cry on.'

Ronnie Corbett, The Two Ronnies (1971)

Bespectacled comedy duo The Two Ronnies was a marriage of sharp wit and a fondness for bawdy double entendres. In an era where Morecambe & Wise were the nation’s sweethearts, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett were a close second - a spot which Corbett later admitted was “a nice time in one’s life”. Much like his namesake, Edinburgh-born Ronnie Corbett found success outside of the beloved partnership, particularly for his role in Sorry! as the down-trodden Timothy Lumsden. Now semi-retired, Corbett lives in Croydon, London.
