EGT head judge Liam Rudden asks, have you got talent?

Edinburgh’s Got Talent (EGT) is looking for singers, dancers, comedians, musicians, choirs, even acrobats to record and share their act.

Now in its fourth year, the first EGT, staged in the Assembly Rooms, was won by the Haughey McAuley Irish Dancers, who performed to a sell-out audience of more than 750 people.

A year later, Granton lad Gavin Blackie took the plaudits. So popular has EGT proved that last year the competition moved to the Playhouse, where the final attracted in excess of 1500.

Thirteen-year-old Caitlyn Vanbeck won on that occasion, bringing the audience to their feet with her rendition of Adele’s Don’t You Remember.

2012 finds us in another new home, and where better than the venue Britain’s Got Talent chose to hold its first ever Edinburgh auditions, the Festival Theatre on Nicolson Street.

One thing that I have learned as head judge over the last three years is that the competition is well named. The standard of entry is astonishing. Even the judges on the night have no idea who will win out. Nerves at the sheer prospect of performing before such a huge audience means every act ups their game, often beyond anything they even knew they were capable of - after all it’s not every day you get to perform of one of the city’s most famous stages.
