DOWNTON Abbey’s lady of the manor, actress Elizabeth McGovern, is to make her Fringe debut at this year’s Festival, the Evening News can reveal today.

Best known to millions as Lady Cora in the award-winning ITV series, McGovern leaves the refined surroundings of the Earl and Countess of Grantham to perform a series of gigs with her band, Sadie & the Hotheads, at the New Town Theatre at Freemasons’ Hall, George Street, this autumn.

McGovern, who has also appeared in films such as Sergio Leone’s gangster epic Once Upon a Time in America and Volker Schlöndorff’s thriller The Handmaid’s Tale, will entertain audiences with her unique fusion of folk and country music, giving the Capital’s Downton Abbey fans a unique opportunity to see the countess as they’ve never seen her before.
