So there’s a certain irony to the fact that these days they’re more famous for their hand movements than their feet (Irish dancing not being known for its flamboyant arms). Sat at either end of a table, Cleary and Harding “argue” with each other by slamming, flipping and slapping their hands against the wood. A routine so novel, the duo has performed it on Britain’s Got Talent and a variety of TV news shows (clips from which we see during the show).

In 2009, when Up & Over It first appeared at the Fringe, it felt fresh and new. Three years on, it hasn’t evolved very much, save for a witty film on the supposed origins of Irish dance. But for newcomers, Cleary and Harding’s blend of video, dance and humour has much to offer.

Whether they like it or not, though, it’s the superb hard and soft shoe dancing (á la Riverdance) that proves the highlight of the night.
