Comedy review: Josh Widdicombe: The Further Adventures Of…, Pleasance Courtyard (Venue 33), Edinburgh

This is Josh’s “difficult second album”. He is still the hugely engaging comedy moppet that he has always been, and this show has hilarious, laugh out loud moments and tiny gem-like observations that you can hear his audience replaying around the Pleasance Courtyard long after the show.

Josh Widdicombe: The Further Adventures Of…

Pleasance Courtyard (venue 33)

Star rating: * * *

Cashpoints and parcel deliveries, breakfast buffets and iPhones, The Woman in Black and board games in pubs all get a comprehensive Joshing and we laugh a lot.

But for me, we had too many Cocopops and it was more of an extended club set than a show – though an hour with Widdicombe is never going to be anything less than fun.

He still looks like he has walked out of a Milly Molly Mandy cartoon, and the stuff about cagoules and school fundraisers and willies and custard all have charm.

The hour never really dips and fairly rushes by as Josh vents his exasperation on the storylines of Cluedo and Monopoly, DIY food on trains and the repercussions of not standing up for yourself. This second album might not be a classic but it is very listenable.
