The tills are alive...

THE Sound of Music has set a new record at His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, becoming the first show there to break the £1 million barrier for ticket sales – with two weeks of the run still to go.

Aberdeen Performing Arts, the company that operates the theatre, said ticket sales for the musical, which began its four-week run on 24 March, had reached 1,053,000. The total is expected to rise before the show closes on 17 April.

Until this week, the highest-selling show at His Majesty's had been another musical, Miss Saigon, which sold 950,000 of tickets in the summer of 2006.
