T in the Park review: Weezer

Main Stage, Sunday

AMONG the things you probably didn't expect to hear: Weezer banging out a cover of 'Paranoid Android'. Yes, Radiohead.

It's their way, they explain, of celebrating the British music they love. Well, fair dos, Weezer. It's a bit jarring amongst their old songs, but seems to fit somehow; maybe it's just the appropriateness of the "rain down... rain down..." part.

Rivers Cuomo starts the gig submerged in the crowd, and has clearly decided to get stuck in, regardless of the weather. Aside from the strange cover versions, they belt out hit after hit; 'Say it Ain't So', 'Island in the Sun', 'Beverley Hills', 'Pork and Beans', 'Hash Pipe' and 'Buddy Holly'.

For a band which has been together so long, they somehow manage to escape feeling too tired; coming across instead as a familiar friend. It's not rocket science, it's just good tunes.
