T in the Park review: Laurent Garnier, Slam Tent
The F Communications founder’s restless nature has seen him experiment with everything from free jazz to 90s trance over more than two decades, but his most enduring singles are a good shorthand for where Garnier remains most comfortable - somewhere between the Jeff Mills-esque, shuttling industrial thud of Crispy Bacon and the rasping jazz-house odyssey of The Man With The Red Face.
On the evidence of his closing 40 minutes, he’s begun to settle for the sort of floor-ready tech-house fare that has been the Slam Tent’s bread and butter in its more pedestrian moments. The music’s sheer muscularity pushes and shoves the crowd into a submissive jig, but the music is too forceful to be fun.
