T in the Park review: Friendly Fires

Radio 1 / NME Stage, Saturday

BAND of the summer? Cue the pouring rain.

It wouldn't be T in the Park without the heavens opening at the most inappropriate point and Friendly Fires - or more to the point, their audience - get a good soaking over at the NME Stage.

At least frontman Ed McFarlane has the decency to show a bit of empathy and has no problem heading out to the crowd to greet their drenched fans, and before long his Hawaiian shirt is clinging to him like a fresh layer of skin.

The crowd aren't remotely bothered by the weather either and lap up a meaty set of punch-the-air anthems, old and new.

Recent single Live Those Days Tonight, powered out halfway through, is where it all seems to make sense and it's easy street from there with Skeleton Boy, Hawaiian Air and superb closer Kiss of Life keeping spirits high.
