St Andrews students put on fashion show

ACADEMIA took to the catwalk this weekend in St Andrews for the UK’s largest student-run fashion show.

The event is held annually to raise money for charity. It was during a similar event in 2002 - the Don’t Walk fashion show - that Kate Middleton, then 19, appeared modelling a transparent dress. The university was also where Kate caught the eye of the fellow student Prince
William.

More than 1,500 people attended this year’s show, which was held on Saturday in a purpose built marquee on the Lower College Lawn at the
university.

Money raised from the show will contribute towards efforts to raise significant funds for the University of St Andrews 600th Anniversary campaign. It will go towards the Wardlaw Scholarship scheme, which provides financial assistance for academically gifted students to study at the University of St Andrews.

Speaking at a recent reception to mark the university’s 600th anniversary, Prince William said he and his wife “love” St Andrews “for the friendships it has given us”.
