Skerryvore to take over Oban for 10th birthday gig

Skerryvore, who were formed on the Hebridean island of Tiree, will be staging a huge open-air gig in Oban at the end of May.

Thousands of fans of the band, who announced the anniversary event at a sell-out Celtic Connections concert, are expected to descend on Mossfield Stadium for the all-day concert, which will feature some of Scotland’s leading folk and Celtic artists, including the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Skipinnish.

The band, which is expecting its fanbase to travel to the event from around the world, says it will have a “real festival feel.”

Skerryvore, one of the country’s biggest draws at traditional music festivals, have gone on to enjoy huge success overseas, playing gigs in more than 25 different countries.

Accordion player Daniel Gillespie, who also organises the annual Tiree Music Festival, said: “As a band we really wanted to mark our 10th year by holding our biggest and best gig to date.

“After researching different venues we chose Mossfield Stadium as it felt natural to return to a region that was so prominent in the early development of the band.

“We are delighted to be joined by some of the most respected and creative musicians in the trad music scene that we have become friends with during our musical journey over the past decade.”

Tickets for the Skerryvore: Decade event are due to go on sale on Friday 6 February.
