Scottish quote of the week: Sean Connery

“Perhaps I’m not a good actor, but I would be even worse at doing anything else.”

While Sir Sean Conery has racked up the awards and taken a heap of praise since he first made his name as James Bond, the Edinburgh-born actor has never been scared to take a dig at his critics, as this quote shows.

Indeed, over the years some have questioned why Sir Sean never changes his thick Scottish accent whether he’s playing an English secret agent, an Irish policeman, a Russian Sub Commander, or an Egyptian/Spanish swordfighter.

However, with regards to his lack of an English speaking voice, Connery has always been quite open about his pride in keeping his Scottish accent: “To cultivate an English accent is already a departure away from what you are.”
