Scots footballers lift World Cup trophy

The Scotland team has won football’s Homeless World Cup in Paris after a close-fought final against Mexico.

The Scots lifted the trophy after winning 4-3 at the Stade de Liberte at the Champs de Mars.

The event brings together players from a range of social projects across the world, including Street Soccer Scotland.

Scotland last lifted the trophy in 2007 and were ranked ninth going into the tournament.

First Minister Alex Salmond offered his “heartfelt congratulations” to the team. He said: “This is a fantastic achievement and one that all those involved in the squad should be immensely proud of. The Scottish Homeless team have shown they are yet again the team to beat.”

The initiative uses football to reach out and help people from some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged communities.
