Rory Bremner set for BBC independence comedy

COMEDIAN and satirist Rory Bremner will set his sights on Scottish independence in a comedy special for the BBC.

Bremner will interview Scottish politicians, popular figures and members of the public in Rory goes to Holyrood. The Radio Times report that the special will also include a stand-up routine from the comedian, based on his experiences of Scottish politics on his trip.

Bremner is Scottish, but admits that a professional life spent in London has left him somewhat out of the loop.

Bremner told the Radio Times: “Coming back to Scotland in the run-up to the Referendum, I realised I knew almost nothing about Scottish Politics. Time I did.

“And why is there so little political comedy in Scotland outside the Parliament? Time to make sense (and nonsense) of it all.”

The comedian is best known for his Channel 4 show Bremner, Bird and Fortune, and for his impressions of political figures. He recently appeared on Strictly Come Dancing.

Ewan Angus of BBC Scotland said of the project: “We’re delighted Rory is coming home to cast his eye over the landscape. His razor-sharp observations and impressions will give the audience a different perspective on the referendum story.”

Rory Goes to Holyrood will be broadcast later in 2013.
