Restaurant review: Bijou Bistro, Edinburgh

IT claims to be "part of your day" – a place to stop by in the morning for a hot roll, at lunchtime for a light bite and in the evening for a full meal for all the family.

And that it is.

Situated on the corner of Restalrig Road, with views across Leith Links, Bijou is a busy and appealing cafe/restaurant that has truly found its home since it opened three years ago.

Under the ownership of New Zealand-born Liza Robinson, this cosy eatery offers a wide and tasty menu and a welcoming atmosphere – not to mention a much-needed asset to this area of the city.

For these reasons, Bijou has developed an affectionate fanbase among locals as well as those who are prepared to travel slightly further to secure a table.

Diners can enjoy tasty Sunday roasts from 6.95; a full Bijou breakfast for 5.95; and a wide variety of lunch and dinner meals, including homemade fishcake with sweet chilli dip/mixed leaves (11.95) and char grilled Aberdeen Angus steak with buttery spinach mash/grilled tomato (14.50).

Well worth a visit.
