Recommended restaurant: First Coast food simply first class

TUCKED away in Dalry, it would be easy to think that First Coast Restaurant might escape the attention of discerning gourmands. Thankfully, nothing could be further from the truth.

Casual, relaxed dining is the name of the game and with frequent shake-ups given to the menu, even regulars are spoilt for choice. Quality ingredients and wonderful flavours are the restaurant's forte.

Starters average 5 and include roast aubergine, apricot chutney, feta and pine nut salad. Mains can reach anything up to 17.95 for the Aberdeen Angus sirloin steak, although fish lovers will be impressed with the roasted John Dory with Sardinian stuffing and pomegranate potato salad for 16.50. Desserts take on a traditional flavour with jam roly poly and custard (4.95), while Eton mess takes on a twist with lemon curd (4.50).

First Coast is open Monday to Saturday, noon to 2pm and 5pm to 10.30pm.
