Q Ex–pat Tom Conway made contact from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as he is trying to trace an old friend, Andrew Longmuir. The pair both lived in Niddrie Mains in 1937 and were pupils St John's until 1947. Mr Longmuir used to live in Gilmerton Dykes Terrace and went by the nickname "Gantz". Q Bill Ford from Queensland, Australia, is looking to trace an old friend from his days in Edinburgh. Joe Paterson was his next door neighbour when the pair lived in Piershill Square West. Mr Paterson lived at number 13, but it is understood he moved to Penicuik when the Edinburgh and Leith Glassworks closed. Anyone with information should e-mail queries@ edinburghnews.com.

A JIM Maule, from Pennsylvania, USA, has been able to help the Maule Trophy Bowling Association in its search for relatives of its late founder, Edinburgh businessman Sir Robert Maule. The association is celebrating its centenary in August and members last week asked for help in tracing members of Sir Robert's family. Mr Maule e-mailed: "You will find, at www.maulefamily.com, much information concerning the Maule family. Go to "Maule Family Groups", and then group 18 for the family of Robert Maule of Tulliallan – he was the father of Sir Robert Maule."
