Professional wind surfer swaps Hawaii for Lewis

WHILE some beaches in the Outer Hebrides may rival Hawaii in the scenery stakes the two are almost incomparable when it comes to weather.

However the stormy winds lavishing waves on Lewis’ coastline were exactly the reason that professional wind surfer Timo Mullen stopped short a trip to the US outpost after only 3 days upon hearing of the excellent conditions forecasted for the remote Scottish isle.

He wasn’t alone as wind surfers flocked to Lewis this week including British wind surfing Champion Jamie Hancock (pictured in second image).

Mullen is no stranger to Scotland having been previously crowned winner of The Tiree Wave Classic.
