Preview: Twelfth Night, Lodge Gardens

SHAKESPEARE al fresco. Let's hope the weather holds. That'll be the wish of Quantum Theatre's players later this month when they venture to North Berwick.

Known for presenting adaptations of the classics at outdoor venues, they tour to the Lodge Gardens to present the Bard's classic comedy of mistaken identities, Twelfth Night.

Shipwrecked on the shores of Ilyria and believing her brother to be dead our heroine, Viola, disguises herself as a page boy to work for Orsino, the local Duke, who is awash with unrequited love for Lady Olivia.

All manner of comic mix-ups over mistaken identities ensue, whilst below stairs plots involving yellow stockings are afoot to take the pompous Malvolio down a peg or two.

With original music and adaptation by Michael Whitmore, this humorous, action-packed, production of Shakespeare's merry play of love and deception will be staged on 30 July, for one night only.

A tale of disguises and madness and the extraordinary lengths that people will go to for love, it follows Quantum Theatre's previous acclaimed productions which include Great Expectations, Alice Through The Looking Glass and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

A great introduction to the work of Shakespeare, just remember to bring a blanket or folding chair and to dress for the weather.
