Pretty plastics for al fresco dining

ONCE it was only the upper classes who could do picnics in style – Victorian aristos with cartloads of servants to carry tables, chairs and a full banquet to whatever beauty spot they choose.

But while silver cutlery and fine china might be a bit much for even the most dedicated picnicker these days, dining al fresco in style is a piece of cake (or quiche).

Just about every store does as pretty as plastic can get picnicware, and practical picnic rucksacks, colourful tiffin boxes and designer flasks are easily snapped up at high-street prices. So now all that's needed is to select a scenic spot – and pray for sunshine.
