Portrait of broadcaster James Naughtie to enter national collection

A portrait of veteran broadcaster James Naughtie has gone on public display for the first time.

The painting, by artist Brendan Kelly, is to enter Scotland’s National Collection and is now on display at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh.

Naughtie, a former reporter with The Scotsman, spent 21 years as a co-anchor of BBC Radio Four’s flagship Today programme.

He retired from the role three years ago but remains a special correspondent for the programme.

The portrait was specially commissioned with the support of the Friends of the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) and was painted in Naughtie’s Edinburgh home.
