'Pinch me' moment for Tony nominated director as musical comes to Edinburgh Fringe

A musical which premiered in the US weeks before the covid pandemic closed down theatres is to be brought to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Fairytale themed Bliss, which is billed as “turning the classic fairytale inside out", is to be performed in its first full scale run at the Pleasance venue since its opening at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre in 2020.

Produced by the Olivier-award winning team behind the musical of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the show is directed by Tony nominee and Broadway director Sheryl Kaller.

Ms Kaller said: “Being in Scotland - at the legendary Fringe Festival - is a ‘pinch me’ moment for me. Getting the opportunity to bring Bliss to the festival, is the perfect springboard for this brand new project that champions choice and the power of great storytelling.”

She added: “Bliss is a new, original, musical that celebrates joy, friendship, sisterhood, and finding one’s true self. We’re so ready for the Fringe audience to get to see what we’ve been cooking up - and we apologise in advance for all the songs that will be stuck in everyone’s head for months. There’s no better time to bring this story to life.”

The musical was trialled as a series of ticketed workshop presentations at Sadler’s Wells in London in 2025.

It will run from 5 to 31 August at Pleasance Grand.
