Pictures of St Cuthbert's horses

"IN the 1940s, I remember my father taking me to Easter Road, not to watch football, but the St Cuthbert's horses who pulled the milk carts around households in Edinburgh, returning after their day's work to the stables," writes Ian McLaren, from Bramdean Rise. "It was a great sight. The stables were built like Noah's Ark with two curved walkways which the tired horses slowly plodded up for a well-earned meal and rest.

I wonder if any photographs exist of this wonderful spectacle? I would love to see one to bring back very happy memories?"

• DAVID Thomson replies: "The stable building was on Grove Street and I believe it's still there. Part of Eater Road was covered by Leith Provident, who delivered milk, and there was a stable opposite Albion Road, used for the "trace horses" who assisted carts from the docks up the incline to Regent Road."
