Pick of the Club Nights

D... I... S... C... O... It’s party time on Sunday night at the newly revamped Medina, now auspiciously named The Third Door.

Discobox, which is presented in association with Alex Tronic Records, is a new monthly club night that is the brainchild of club promoter Stuart Kane.

“I have always been into disco and funky house,” says Kane.

“It’s what I was brought up on. My mum had a cracking collection of original disco records, she’d get them on and me, my sister and all our friends would party.”

Kane believes that the harder beats of dance music are too bleak and that people want funkier sounds to get “lost in” to while partying, without paying over the odds.

“I put on Discobox because the sound system is great and The Third Door is a comfortable, cool place to party.

“Sunday night allows me to drop the door price.”

It’s not all about shaving off a few pounds, Kane has DJed in Edinburgh with DJ Claudio and Tommy Kay for years.

“I chose to go local. All my guest DJs are Edinburgh based. We have the talent here and the days of DJs claiming massive amounts of cash are over.

“I brought in Claudio and Tommy for the first night because they play uplifting funky sounds... perfect for firing up a party.”

Other Edinburgh talent includes Gordon Barclay, Michael Dow, Craig Fraser, Lou Thomas, Pete Prinzel, Trendy Wendy and yours truly.

You know where to go Sunday.
