Photographer shortlisted for Scots landscape pictures

A PHOTOGRAPHER whose work captures the wild Scottish landscape in “painterly qualities” has been shortlisted in a prestigious world photography competition.

Paul Kingston, who works for the North News and Pictures agency, has been nominated for the Guardian World Agency Photographer of the Year prize.

The County Durham man is up against some of the best photographers from around the globe, capturing everything from erupting volcanoes to children’s camps in North Korea.

Paul’s shortlisted image, Autumn in the Glens, captures a steam train crossing Glenfinnan Viaduct in Lochaber and is just one of his many scenes from the Highlands.

Judges said the train image was one of a number of a consistently high standard in his portfolio, adding that he captures the “beauty of landscapes with his painterly images”.

The winner is due to be announced on 
29 December.
