Papers scoop TV news deal

A CONSORTIUM of newspaper groups has been named as the preferred bidder for the provision of news on STV.

The Scottish News Consortium is made up of Johnston Press, the owner of the Evening News, the Herald and Times Group and DC Thomson, along with TV production company Tinopolis.

It is one of three preferred bidders set to run three new pilot regional television news operations on ITV.

The consortia will receive 47 million in government funding over two years.
