Niddrie Rio cinema

Andy Weddell, from Portobello, would like to ?nd out more about the local cinema at Niddrie, originally called the Rio. He asks: "I want to ?nd out when it was originally built – I think it was some time between 1932 and 1935. Can anyone tell me what the ?rst ?lm to play there was?

"It burnt down three or four years after it opened and stood derelict until the 1950s when it reopened as the George. I want to ?nd out when exactly it burnt down and when it reopened. It then changed its name to the County – can anyone tell me when that happened? Finally, does anyone know when it was demolished?"
