Benedetti shared some of the secrets of her success during the online music lesson as part of a BBC initiative to inspire children to enjoy classical music.

She then took part in a short concert for primary school pupils with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at Pacific Quay in Glasgow where they tackled the first movement of Beethoven’s fifth symphony, while thousands of children watched online.

“I would say I come across very few children who really do get to hear a symphony orchestra or see something visual like the BBC Ten Pieces film who don’t have a positive experience and an inspiring experience and an exciting experience,” Benedetti said.

The interactive music lesson was hosted by Barney Harwood from children’s television programme Blue Peter.

The BBC’s ambitious Ten Pieces project is aimed at primary school children and involves ten pieces of classical music, including works by Mozart, Handel and Britten.
