My little piece of Scotland: Isle of Arran

My favourite place in Scotland is the Isle of Arran. It is a very busy place with lots of beaches. There is lots to do for people who love the outdoors, and loads of walks. The biggest mountain there is called Goat Fell. It's busy because the ferry comes in every hour and all the passengers rush to get to their hotels.

Me, my Mum, my Dad and my brother Lewis go there every Easter to see my great-uncle Mike. We get there by ferry from Ardrossan. There is a lovely hotel called the Auchrannie that we stay in. I especially love to swim in the pool.

There are lovely beaches we go to with our friends, who have a holiday house on the island. They also come over with us.

Every year, we go on the Easter egg hunt at Brodick Castle. One year I was sick the day before the egg hunt and my Mum said that I wasn't allowed any chocolate the following day. The next day we went on the egg hunt and when we finished we got a huge Easter egg – and I ate most of it. Mum didn't realise until my brother told her, and so I couldn't eat any more until the next day.

I love to go putting with Lewis and Dad. One time I almost got a hole in one. I especially love to go putting because of the ice-cream that we have afterwards. At night we often go to a restaurant in our hotel called Brambles, where we all get delicious food to eat.

Every year we go to the pottery workshop, where there are lots of plates, bowls and mugs and so on. This year I made a mug for me to have my hot chocolate in after I get back from school. It says, "Mairi is cool" on it.

I love Arran because of all the things you can do there.
