Must Visit Scotland: Edinburgh

SCOTLAND’S capital, with its stunning scenery and volcanic landscape, draws in millions of visitors from around the world each year. While many opt for the main tourist thoroughfares others seek to discover the real Auld Reekie which, as many a weary visitor will testify, is no easy task. Here Lisa Wilson, of Must Visit Scotland, draws on her own personal experience to select some of the city’s hidden gems that should make it onto the itinerary of any Edinburgh-bound visitor.

MUST EAT

Nonna’s Kitchen, Morningside

An authentic Italian restaurant on Morningside’s fringes, a short taxi ride from Edinburgh city centre. Nonna’s kitchen delivers on the welcome of a typical family Italian eatery and is unsurprisingly very busy – probably advisable to book!

Water of Leith Bistro, Leith

A small, “blink and you’ll miss it” bistro where service is top of the menu. Exceptional cakes and an extremely laid back atmosphere make this a wonderful place to while away the hours.

The Square

A personally owner run city centre deli, focussing on fresh ingredients and delicious handmade produce, perfect for sitting in or taking away and open all day.

Edinburgh International Climbing Centre, Ratho

An out of town activity centre, developing skills for all ages in climbing, archery, abseiling and offering a host of team building and recreation days. In-house shops, soft play and refreshment outlets all contribute to a perfect day out.
