Marilyn-inspired shoe art for sale

A PAIR of outsized shoes inspired by those worn by Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch when she famously stood on an air vent will go under the hammer later this week.

Marilyn, a pair of stiletto heels made from stainless steel pans and lids, is offered for auction at Christie's in London.

The 13ft by 9.8ft work by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconceloswill be offered with an estimate of 100,000 to 150,000.

Last June, Christie's offered Golden Independent Heart, by the same artist, a 14ft rotating heart made of plastic cutlery, which exceeded its estimate of 80,000-120,000, selling for 163,250.
