SPOTIFY has announced their most streamed track of all time and it definitely wasn’t what you were thinking.

Eletro outfit Major Lazer (brainchild of American producer Diplo) currently holds the title of Spotify’s most streamed song with the track Lean On, released just eight months ago.

The track, a collaboration with French producer DJ Snake and Danish artist MØ, was released on Diplo’s Mad Decent record label and failed to reach the number 1 spot in the US or the UK.

But Lean On has since been played 526 million times on the online streaming site, beating previous record holder Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud.

The track was recorded by Diplo’s Major Lazer project only after previously being turned down by Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.

Despite being a globally commercial success, the track’s place at the top of Spotify has come as something of a shock to many - with the site boasting the back catalogues of international superstars such as Michael Jackson and Led Zeppelin.
