Lynne McCrossan: We can turn over a new leaf as autumn drifts in

THERE has been a sharp dip in temperature over the past week.

I noticed it while watching most of the Udderbelly population clamber around outside heaters, teeth chattering, unable to admit defeat that it was too cold to be enjoying chilled beverages al fresco.

It highlighted one little fact . . . summer is officially over.

Which, let's be honest, is great news.

No more hay-fever, it eradicates the threat of being stung by wasps, and soggy feet due to torrential downpours will be a thing of the past as flip flops get packed away for another year.

Now this might be sad news for some, but for true fashionistas it's like all our Christmases have come at once.

You see, there is nothing more fashionable than when flimsy summer frocks have to go back in the wardrobe to be replaced by items from the best dressed season of them all - autumn.

There is no more fearing for your modesty while stepping outside the front door in sheer fabrics as that Forth wind blows your skirt skyward.

Soon structured autumn fabrics will cling to your curves in the richest colour pallet, brightening the most peely-wally of Scottish complexions.

Then there is the greatest reason to rejoice - bra straps. Once again they will be concealed under copious amounts of layers, which is far more alluring than letting it all hang out.

I loved this lady's use of accessories as soon as I saw her. Her jacket is Karen Millen, but Melissa popped the flower on to it and that's from H&M.

Her bag is Jaeger, her jeans are from Warehouse and her boots were in the sale at Oasis.
