Laura Pearson-Smith: Thinking about AW15

FASHION blogger Laura Pearson-Smith reviews the latest high street beauty products and treatments

It’s hard to believe that we are coming into September now. I don’t even feel like we’ve had a proper Summer. The fashion and beauty worlds are all about Autumn/Winter now, so I’ve seen a lot of Christmas trees at events over the last couple of weeks.

Stylish Happenings

Last week, the Cambridge Satchel Company held a press day showcasing their new AW15 collections in their Glasgow store on Royal Exchange Square. The room was filled with holly wreaths, and Patisserie Valerie created a beautiful Christmas cake for afternoon tea. I particularly loved the Oxblood red colour that they have introduced for a lot of their bag styles, and there is a stunning Harris Tweed fabric-covered trunk that is exclusive to their Scottish store.

House of Fraser were similarly all over Christmas this week, when they held their AW15 press party at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal. Gorgeous models in dazzling gowns, that are perfect for the festive season, walked amongst guests as we browsed the new season’s fashion offerings from the store. Biba came out on top for me- they have gone all out on the sparkle and sequins for Christmas, so this will definitely be where I’m picking up my party dress and accessories from.

Since we are entering a new season very soon, I felt it was time for a hair change. I had my long locks chopped into a bob at the Rainbow Room International on George Square in Glasgow, and also had a Nanokeratin permanent blow dry there. This treatment is pricey (around £250); but it’s definitely worth it if you want sleek and straight hair without much effort. They use Keratin protein to penetrate the hair strands, which repairs internal damage and adds a non-soluble coating to the hair. Hair is then dried and straightened with special irons to create a poker-straight and frizz-free look that lasts for up to 12 weeks. It dramatically cuts down your daily styling time, so those dreams of ‘get up and go’ will definitely be within your reach.

What to Buy On a Shopping Spree

Make sure you get your hands on this beautiful limited edition blush palette from Sleek MakeUP before it disappears. There is something in their Nautical Collection Blush by 3 palette in Santa Marina (£10) to flatter all skin tones.

If you feel like treating yourself, the Illuminage Skin Rejuvenating Pillowcase (£50) will make you feel like a princess as you sleep. The silky fabric is infused with copper oxide, which when coming into contact with your skin, fights wrinkles and prevents those dreaded sleep lines we all wake up with.

I am in love with the Orla Kiely AW15 shoe collection for Clarks. There is a real on-trend retro ‘70s feel to the collection that launches on 4th September; with chunky heels and Kiely’s signature prints in abundance.

I had gel polish on my nails throughout most of July and August, so I felt it was time to give my nails a bit of a break and some TLC. I adore this brand new nourishing polish from Nails Inc. Their NailBright NailKale varnish in shade Chelsea Embankment Mews (£14) provides a very sheer pink flush to your nails with a brightening pearlescent finish; while also strengthening and repairing them with the addition of bee pollen.
