TAKE time to relax and learn to give yourself some TLC, suggests fashion blogger Laura Pearson-Smith

One of the things that is always at the bottom of our to do lists is to look after ourselves. We tend to put work and family first and forget that everybody needs to take time out to pamper themselves every so often, too. I’ve been conscious of this over the past couple of weeks and have enjoyed some lovely self-indulgent experiences.

STYLISH HAPPENINGS

Liz Earle’s botanical scented products are perfect for a pampering session and I got to hang out with her in the penthouse suite at the Blythswood Square Hotel during her visit to Glasgow. I enjoyed a decadent afternoon tea and learnt all about her new releases celebrating the brand’s 20th birthday. Since then, I’ve had her new relaxing Lavender and Basil candle lit permanently in my house. The quarterly Liz Earle Wellbeing magazine (available from WH Smith) is also a perfect read when you want some ‘me time’- there are excellent tips on looking after yourself both mentally and physically.

There really is nothing more self-indulgent than a hotel stay on your own. At Citizen M’s invitation, I took myself off to their Glasgow city centre hotel last week to experience what they offer and have some time out. The place is filled with lots of creative quirky interiors and accessories, and they were holding a blogger press trip to showcase their love for art and style. We were treated to a preview of the Turner Prize 2015 exhibition at Glasgow’s Tramway, followed by a delicious dinner at Stravaigin in the West End. My room was very high-tech, with mood lighting and relaxation sound effects, and I definitely didn’t want to leave the next day.

WHAT TO BUY ON A SHOPPING SPREE

The Au Lait Milk Bath Powder (£13.95) from Scottish Fine Soaps is enriched with relaxing chamomile and real milk. When you add it to your bath, you get lots of lovely creamy bubbles; treating your skin to some major moisturising action.

My hot water bottles are my favourite items that I own- getting into bed with one is like a warm cuddle. Now that the cold weather is approaching fast, this cute knitted version with pink pom-poms (£5 from Asda) will become your best friend. It looks very seasonal too.

Talking of getting cosy, these pretty hedgehog pyjamas (£28) from Topshop are perfectly autumnal. It’s not quite time for Christmas onesies yet, so these will see you through the next couple of months in style. If you’re thinking about how you could manage to wear them outside to show them off, don’t worry – so am I.

INSTAGRAM OF THE WEEK (@LPearsonSmith)

I had Glasgow-based freelance makeup artist Naomi Baxter do my makeup this week for the Turner Prize 2015 launch party. I wanted her to do a very bold and dark smoky eye, as on my own I really struggle with applying eyeliner and false lashes. I love how they turned out, and we kept the rest of my face neutral so that my eyes were very much the focal point. Naomi has a Facebook page (Naomi Baxter Makeup Artist) showcasing all her work and you can book her to do your makeup for special occasions too.
