Kings of Leon set for sell-out Glasgow show

THE Kings of Leon are to play their only Scottish date of the year at Glasgow’s first Summer Sessions event.

The Grammy and Brit Award-winning band, whose hits include Sex On Fire, Use Somebody, Radioactive, Charmer and Molly’s Chambers, will top the bill at Bellahouston Park on 15 August.

They are the second headliners to be announced for Glasgow Summer Sessions, a series of outdoor gigs taking place in August that will see up to four bands performing each day.

Organisers have already revealed that Eminem will play on 20 August and tickets for that show were snapped up in less than seven hours.

It is the first time Kings of Leon will have appeared on stage in Scotland since their sell-out gig at Murrayfield in June 2011.

Glasgow Summer Sessions is being put on by T in the Park organisers DF Concerts and Events, which used to run a similar summer venture at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh – T on the Fringe – as well as Gig in the Green in Glasgow.

Geoff Ellis, the chief executive, said: “This event will be similar to that of Meadowbank, but because it is in a green park we can set up lots of food stalls which will give it more of a festival atmosphere.

“The gates will open at 4pm and there will be three or four different bands on each bill.

“Tickets for the Eminem gig went in just a few hours and we expect the tickets for Kings of Leon to go just as quickly.

“They sold out Murrayfield a couple of years ago and that has a capacity of more than 50,000; the event at Bellahouston Park is a 35,000-person capacity.”

He added: ““They really love playing in Scotland. They’re all keen golfers and last time we got them up to stay at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews.”
