Kezia Dugdale exits I'm A Celebrity jungle after vote

Ms Dugdale, 36, was the bookies’ favourite to go in the first eviction on Friday but made it to the next stage. Campmate Amir Khan also tipped her to be first to leave.

She had come under fire during her jungle stay, which started two days after most of her other campmates, alongside comic Iain Lee, who viewers have warmed to.

Some critics labelled Kezia as boring and said her bossy manner made her unpopular with the viewing public.

Viewers and fellow campmates said she slept too often and were left unimpressed after she struggled to complete her first Bushtucker Trial, a challenge in which she was asked to crawl through tanks consisting of meal worms, crickets, and cockroaches.

According to tabloid reports, producers of the programme were also left underwhelmed by her appearances, despite basing most of her first week around a political theme, with a ‘jungle Prime Minister’ being elected within the camp.

Dugdale was also criticised by some of her peers at Holyrood amid speculation that she might be suspended by the Scottish Labour Party for her decision to appear on the show.

Kezia’s friend, the former Scottish Labour Party head of comms, Alan Roden, flew out to the jungle to meet her for the eviction. Her partner, Jenny Gilruth, a current SNP MSP, was stuck at home.

The regional MSP for the Lothians , who is reportedly being paid £100,000 for her appearance on the ITV show, has said she will give a portion of her fee to charity but has refused to say how much.

In her exit interview, Dugdale said she had hoped to show that not all politicians were like her fellow camper Stanley Johnson, 77, a former MEP and father of Boris Johnson.

She told hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly she had wanted to go on the ITV show to talk about the things she cared about.

She added: “And to take on the myth that every politician looks like Stanley - old, white, male, pale and stale.

“I wanted to show that there is a variety of people out there.”

The 36-year-old, who clapped and exclaimed “yes” when she was told her jungle stay was over, said she was feeling “right as rain” and did not mind being eliminated.

She told McPartlin and Donnelly she would have been happy to stay or go.

But she added: “I’m hungry, I want a bacon roll, I want a nice cup of coffee.”

Dugdale said she thinks the final three will be Amir Khan, Georgia Toffolo and Rebekah Vardy and that she would like to see one of the women win the show.

Sunday night’s instalment of the reality programme also saw Vanessa White and Jennie McAlpine play a game of Jungle Car Cruel Karaoke.

The trial involved them having to hum popular songs while their mouths were full of bugs such as cockroaches, water spiders and witchetty grubs.

The other contestant then had to guess the name of the song and the artist.

The pair managed to secure eight out of 10 stars, meaning the campers tucked into a feast of ostrich egg and mushrooms for dinner, instead of basic rice and beans.

The show continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1. The grand final will take place on Sunday 10 December.
