Judy Murray to make Edinburgh Festival debut

Murray has been booked to appear at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, speaking about how to find and nurture the next generation of talent in the UK.

The experienced tennis coach, who starred in Strictly Come Dancing last year, will also discuss the parallels between performing on court and in a television studio.

Her appearance has been confirmed just days after she watched her sons Andy and Jamie secure a Davis Cup victory to clinch a place in the semi-final of the tournament.

She said: “I’m honoured to be a part of the prestigious Edinburgh TV Festival. This is a highly influential event and the perfect platform to discuss how we can help nurture young talent to succeed in the fields of sport and showbiz.”

Festival director Lisa Campbell said: “Judy is a force to be reckoned with, having produced two of the UK’s top tennis players. She has first-hand experience in what it takes to perform well, and an unbridled passion for nurturing talent.”

Broadcasters Kay Burley and Kirsty Wark, film director Shane Meadows and actor Ross Kemp are also in the line-up for the annual industry event, which is held at the end of August.

The keynote MacTaggart lecture at the festival is being given by Glasgow-born Iannucci, one of Britain’s leading satirists, is best-known for series like The Day Today, I’m Alan Partridge, The Thick of It, and Veep.

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to set out the Scottish Government’s vision for the future of the BBC north of the border and the SNP’s hopes of the Scottish Parliament securing responsibility for broadcasting.

Glasvegas will be performing live after a screening of a new documentary charting the events which unfold when the Glasgow band visit one of the most remote areas of the Amazonian rainforest.

Boyle, who gave a no-holds-barred talk at last year’s event, will be hosting the festival’s annual awards this year.

Special versions of Big Brother, University Challenge and Come Dine With Me will all be staged during the festival, which will offer a sneak preview of the opening episode of the new season of Doctor Who.
