Jenny insists she must get act together

DOROTHY hopeful Jenny Douglas has revealed she is worried her acting skills could be her downfall as she prepares for the first of the final three shows of the contest tonight.

The 18-year-old Over The Rainbow contestant said she was confident in her vocals and even her newly-polished dancing skills, but was worried she could be let down by her acting.

The former Tynecastle High pupil, who has made it to the final six in the competition to find a Dorothy for a West End production of The Wizard of Oz, only started training as an actress last summer.

Jenny, a musical theatre student at Motherwell College, said: "I wouldn't say I'm scared but I'm really nervous about my acting.

"I don't consider myself a very strong actress because I was just beginning my training and haven't even finished it.

"I feel like I have thrown myself in at the deep end a bit. Hopefully the emotion and everything comes through.

"I really trust my vocals now and feel like I have real stability. When I came here I couldn't put one foot in front of the other and have come on so much with my dancing."

Jenny was selected from thousands of hopefuls to become one of the final performers in Andrew Lloyd Webber's BBC talent show.

Now the teenager is desperate to get to the end after coming so far.

She said: "I never ever thought I was going to get this far – it's mental.

"I really hope I'm there until the final. I would absolutely love it and would be gutted to have got this far and have it slip away."

So far, Jenny has never been in the bottom two, proving her popularity with the public, but she said sometimes the judges' comments can be tough to swallow.

She added: "It's very nerve-wracking getting comments back from the judges.

"It's really frustrating when you have been working your wee bum off and putting everything you have got into it and they say it's not good enough,

but each week you find the strength."

Jenny's dad, Andrew, a taxi driver in Edinburgh, will be in the audience tonight to watch his daughter, along with her auntie, uncle and cousin.

The young singer has not been able to come back to Edinburgh since the show started because she only gets one day off a week due to her hectic schedule.

She said: "I'm usually stuck in the Dorothy house while most of the girls go home, but sometimes one or two are there and we order a takeaway and go out shopping, and I spend the time practising my songs.

"The Dorothy house is a bit mad, if you can imagine six teenagers living together.

"It's a lot quieter since some of the girls have left and we're all very close. We have a 9pm curfew in the Dorothy house so we've never been out clubbing yet, but I would love to."
