Interview: Paul Scott Canavan, drummer for The Paradigm Complex

Occupation: Lead artist at Tern Digital, and drummer for The Paradigm Complex.

What school did you attend? George Watson’s College.

What sort of pupil were you? I spent most of my time either painting or in the music school.

Were your school days the best days of your life? I adored my time at school; we had a great deal of creative freedom for which I am extremely grateful.

What was your first job? I worked as an usher at the Usher Hall, appropriately. It mostly consisted of reading books and drinking tea, as I recall.

What has been your most unusual job? I was lead concept artist on a bizarre horror film set in Africa a few years ago. Some of the designs were ludicrous - as far as I know the film was never made.

My biggest achievement so far has been... Seeing my work published in the international art magazine ImagineFX last year.

My worst moment ever was… The death of my bonsai tree last winter. We had a beautiful thing.

Three words that sum up my personality are... Passionate, energetic, introspective.

Favourite place in the world? Behind a drumkit.

Three places in Edinburgh I could not live without are... My parent’s house, The Jazz Bar and Black Bo’s.

Which TV show do you never miss? Any documentary. Or Come Dine With Me.

If you could bring one show to Edinburgh what would it be? Mew. They played here last year and I missed them - gutted.

By what ethos do you live your life? All limitations are self-imposed.
