Interview: Pally Pagliuca on how to get the perfect eyebrows

IF THE eyes are the windows to the soul, then the eyebrows are what frames them.

And if you want to create a pretty picture, both startlingly over-plucked and mega-bushy are looks to avoid.

This week I meet Pally Pagliuca, an expert in the art of eyebrow threading. Starting out with just two threading specialists in her family-run beauty salon, she now employs 56 skilled staff in her own chain of Benito Brow Bars across the country.

There is one in Debenhams, so none of us have any excuse for unruly brows (www.be nitobrowbar.com).

How did you become a brow expert?

I always had ambition but wasn't quite sure exactly what I wanted to do, but I decided that a sensible career would be in financial services so did a business management degree and worked in medical sales for five years.

After meeting my husband, I decided I wanted to help him manage his nail salon and trained as a nail technician, so I was able to combine my creativity with my business skills. Having been taught how to thread my own brows growing up, I offered it as part of our salon treatment menu. What is in your make-up bag?

The essentials are Max Factor mascara and an array of MAC eyeshadows.

What is your top product for hair, face, nails and lips?

For hair, Krastase hair treatment, Aqua-Oleum. For face, Multi-Active Day Cream by Clarins and City Block by Clinique. For nails, I love the Shellac manicure by Creative Nail Design. For lips, Hemp lip care by The Body Shop.

What beauty item can you not live without?

Beauty Flash Balm by Clarins.

What is your favourite scent?

J'adore by Dior.

What is your best tip for staying youthful?

Cleanse, tone and moisturise twice daily - a lot of hard work, but worth it. Drink lots and lots of water - it works.

Why is a groomed brow so important?

A groomed brow is for me about assessing a complimentary shape and style that will enhance a person's natural attributes. Being able to give, what feels like a mini-eyelift in 10 minutes, is very rewarding. It is amazing how a person's confidence can be boosted by such little, regular effort.

What is the brow shape for the season?

This season the brow is full yet groomed.

Can men benefit from some brow attention?

Yes, they can - from a wife bringing in her husband, to men who are keen to have a re-shape.

What's next for you and the brand?

We have a fantastic product range soon to be launched, quite a few new brow bars opening and, for me, personally, who knows, maybe even a holiday!
